“A teacher teaches for six hours a day. A parent influences for eighteen.”

This simple truth points to shared responsibility.

What does this mean? It means that in educating a child, it is neither solely the work of parents nor teachers. Each has a quota to contribute to the lives of young ones. Parents are the first teachers, while schools provide structure, curriculum, and professional guidance. True development cannot occur if both parts are not aligned.

The benefits of shared responsibility cannot be overemphasized. It improves academic success. Better homework supervision not only increases a child’s motivation but also promotes behavioural stability. And what about emotional development? Studies consistently show that students whose parents are actively involved in their education perform better academically and demonstrate stronger social skills.

However, for every good side, there are challenges. Does this mean shared responsibility does not pose difficulties? Of course it does! Busy work schedules, socioeconomic constraints, and communication gaps can hinder collaboration. Yet, these challenges are solvable through intentional effort. In fact, this generation has made partnership easier through technology.

Practical strategies can be implemented to build strong partnerships and provide lasting solutions. Regular parent–teacher meetings and open communication channels such as WhatsApp groups, newsletters, and parent education workshops are not small measures. They are powerful tools that strengthen shared responsibility.

If all these are put into action, they will improve not only individual student outcomes but also national educational standards.

Remember:

A school cannot replace a home, and a home cannot replace a school.

But together, they can build a generation equipped with knowledge, morals, and confidence.

Parents — Be present!

Teachers — Be communicative!

Schools — Be inclusive!
